weekTen : untitled_five

ten sculptures by sleepingKiwi

ten lfoScratchLoop by sleepingKiwi

sticking to schedules, especially a self imposed schedule, is for losers...
-
two quick pieces
-
first: me playing around more with the sculpture synth and recording automation live over several play throughs. also uses a really nice sample i found of giselle singing.
-

-

next: just a looping two bar drum beat. made using a strange mix of samples found all over my mac. i have tried using random lfos to add a bit of variation to the weird scratching sounds in the background.
-

-

also. this link is a flash demo i was working on for work last month which stole away a few days of music making time and so is being uploaded as a substitute for legitimate creativity...

weekNine : cactus

nine cactus by sleepingKiwi

late again, i'm really pleased with this week's (fortnight's?) effort, due in no small part to the consistently amazing vocal talents of giselle wrigley.
-
noisy/bass heavy cover of cactus by pixies.
-
best listened to very loud on headphones or with a set of speakers that will destroy your neighbour's walls.
-
there are a couple of very rushed sections and the mixing/mastering is shocking in places but i wanted to get this piece up before i left for a week. one day i plan to come back and tidy this up a bit more.

weekEight : florence; if you don't

eight florenceifyoudont by sleepingKiwi

due to circumstances entirely within my control i have missed at least a week of updating this blog
-
this piece is based around a short section of a song from the magic roundabout film 'dougal and the blue cat'
-
really just a mashing together of different ideas and noisy distortions
very little structure

weekSeven : tibetanTextures

seven sherpaTexture by sleepingKiwi

another quite long texture based piece.
-
textures built from samples of strange tibetan instruments and random triggering of glitchy samples.
i have been experimenting with synthesised impulse responses in logic's space designer, trying to figure out what all of the settings do. this is part of the result.
-
weird unnecessary beat on a strange kit...

weekSix : untitled_four

six versaillesWindows by sleepingKiwi

i don't know if i like this but i'll put it up anyway
a mess of ideas and pianos
-
ambiance/feedback recorded in versailles
piano and editing mostly done on the eurostar
-
there are two tracks of ambiance, one for each ear which can be interesting in headphones
6 different piano tracks/sounds make for quite a messy piece.

weekFive : untitled (morganFreeman'sVoice_dictaphone)

five dictaphoneSamplesSketch by sleepingKiwi

this is cheating; i already had most of this rough sketch together before last week.

made entirely from audio recorded on a small tape-based dictaphone for use in a morgan freeman's voice project.
very minimal use of non-destructive effects.
lots of time stretching/reversing.

weekFour : the dow is so idm

four DoWissoIDM by sleepingKiwi

i wanted to do a lot more with this one but the week ran out before i even started.
contains:
old tape recordings of royal hi-jinx (which i will definitely re-visit)
very lazily edited ultrabeat kit
strange instruments created in es2
a lack of direction and an abrupt finish.

weekTwo : untitled_two

playing around with pure sound waves, additive synthesis, random and repetitive sequencing and reverb/delay.
all synthesis was additive and done in max/msp using simple sine/square/triangle waves.
i used a max/msp patcher which i wrote at university to generate envelopes for each sound and to semi-randomly sequence and trigger sounds.
quite long.
